TikTok and 58 more applications including Shareit, UC Browser, WeChat, and others have been banned by the Government. 

The Main thing these different apps have in main? All are made by Chinese firms. In its notice, the government claimed that such apps are harmful to India's sovereignty and independence, protection of India, state security and public order.

According to a release issued by the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MEITY), the Ministry blocked the applications pursuant to the provisions of Section 69 of the IT Act,

As well as the provisions of the IT rules 2008, stating that 'in view of the knowledge available, they are engaged in activities that are [sic] detrimental to India's sovereignty and independence, security.

A quick glance at the 59 apps reveals that their Chinese roots is the common thread but otherwise it's a rather diverse group.

Besides TikTok, which is possibly the best known application in the list, it includes Shein,Online apparel distributor, Shareit and ES File Explorer.

Which are used to move and manage files, Helo and Likee, which are quite related to TikTok social networks, News aggregator Newsdog, famous browser UC Browser, and strategy game Clash of Kings.

MEITY has requested the Telecommunications Department (DOT) to direct telecommunications firms and Internet service providers to restrict access to these applications.

which is how the existing applications will be made to stop functioning, aside from banning them from the app stores so that they can't be downloaded.

The new ban is possibly linked to the dispute between India and China and thus it is less clear whether it would be as easy to overcome as it was in the past
